How to Verify a Forex or FinTech Job Offer Before You Commit

An unexpected message about a senior role can be a useful career opportunity. Before sending sensitive documents or making a commitment, establish who is contacting you and which business is offering the job.
LinkedIn’s Job Search Safety Pulse, published on 6 May 2026, found that 72% of professionals surveyed questioned a role’s legitimacy at least sometimes before applying. The survey covered 8,512 working professionals across five countries; it was not a survey of Cyprus or the Forex sector. [1]
For Forex, CFD, FinTech and payments candidates, verification has an additional dimension. A trading brand, a licensed investment firm and the company employing its staff may have different names. These five checks can help you understand the opportunity and move forward with confidence.
1. Confirm who is approaching you
Check the recruiter’s identity through a route you find independently. Open the agency’s or employer’s website yourself and use its published contact details to confirm the person and vacancy. A profile photo, email signature or familiar logo is not enough on its own.
LinkedIn’s 2026 research highlights early outreach as a point of vulnerability and recommends checking the company, recruiter and available verification signals. Treat a badge as one useful signal rather than a guarantee. [1]
Sector context matters. An agency may withhold the client’s name during an initial confidential search. That can be reasonable, but the agency should still identify itself, explain the role and clarify when the employer’s identity can be disclosed. Ask how your CV will be presented and which employer it will reach before agreeing to a specific submission.
Action for you: confirm the recruiter through an independently located business contact before sending anything beyond an initial CV.
2. Map the brand to the employing entity
Ask for the full legal name of the proposed employer and the entities your work would support. A vacancy advertised under a global brand may sit within a local investment firm, a technology subsidiary or a shared-services company. Understand the relationship rather than assuming the brand name will appear on your contract.
For a business claiming to be a Cyprus Investment Firm, use CySEC’s investment-firm register and approved-domain list to check the regulated entity and its website. Go to the regulator directly rather than relying on a licence screenshot supplied in a message. [2][3] For payments firms or overseas entities, use the appropriate regulator for the claimed activity and jurisdiction.
A separate group employer need not itself hold the financial-services licence. Equally, finding a licensed company does not authenticate the person contacting you, guarantee the vacancy or establish the employer’s financial health. Ask the recruiter to explain any differences between the advertised brand, regulated business and contracting employer.
Action for you: write down the employer, supported business, jurisdiction and reporting line. Resolve unexplained inconsistencies before accepting.
3. Test whether the hiring process matches the role
A specialist vacancy should become more concrete as discussions progress. Ask who you will report to, why the position is open and what you would be expected to deliver during the first three months. Compare answers across the recruiter, hiring manager and written offer.
A Head of Dealing discussion might cover team coverage, exposure monitoring and escalation authority. A Compliance role should establish the entities supported and responsibilities retained by senior management. A technology role should clarify the systems, team and operational demands. You do not need confidential business information to understand the job’s basic scope.
Pay attention when substantial responsibilities appear only at the offer stage, or a promised management role has no clear team or decision authority. These may indicate a poorly defined position even where the employer is legitimate. Ask for an updated description and enough time to consider it.
Action for you: send a brief written summary of the role after the final interview and ask the employer to confirm or correct it.
4. Share documents through a verified process
Hiring can involve identity, right-to-work and background checks. The useful questions are why a document is needed now, who will receive it and how it should be supplied. Verify the organisation and submission route before sending identity documents, bank information or other sensitive records.
Keep examples of your own work separate from your employer’s confidential material. A Compliance candidate can describe an investigation without sending client files. A dealer can explain risk decisions without sharing live positions. A developer can discuss architecture without disclosing credentials, proprietary code or access to production systems.
Where an external screening provider is involved, confirm its involvement with the employer through a known contact. Ask for the relevant privacy information and use the agreed channel. A request that looks unusual deserves clarification even if an earlier conversation appeared credible.
Action for you: keep a simple record of what you shared, with whom and for which application. Never provide account passwords or one-time login codes to a recruiter.
5. Pause when the job requires personal money movements
An FBI warning published on 26 June 2026 describes employment scams using financial-sounding roles to recruit people to move stolen money. It identifies requests to use a personal bank account for business transactions as a warning sign. [4] This is particularly relevant when evaluating supposed payments, finance or digital-asset work.
Stop if an unverified contact asks you to receive and forward funds, purchase cryptocurrency, or open an account to process customer payments as a recruitment exercise. A request to pay an unverified party to secure the position also needs independent checking. Do not complete a financial transaction simply because it is presented as an urgent test.
If you have already sent money or account details and suspect fraud, contact your bank promptly. Preserve the messages and payment records, report the account to the platform and contact the relevant police or cybercrime reporting service. Use official contact routes you locate independently.
Action for you: separate a legitimate assessment of professional knowledge from any request to move real money or provide personal account access.
Conclusion
A few deliberate checks can improve a career decision as well as help identify a suspicious approach. Confirm the recruiter, understand the employer’s structure and establish the job’s responsibilities before sharing sensitive information or accepting an offer.
For your next opportunity, keep one page containing the verified contacts, entity names, role description and outstanding questions. Use it to make the decision on facts you can explain.
