Forex Hiring Is Slowing But Cyprus Is Still Leading: What Employers Should Change in 2026

1. Fewer Vacancies Can Mean More Competition for the Right Candidate
When the overall number of vacancies falls, recruitment does not automatically become easier. A company may reduce general hiring while continuing to compete aggressively for a Compliance Manager, Head of Payments, experienced Dealer, senior developer or other specialist professional.
The better question is not “How many people are we hiring?” but “Which positions are sufficiently important that we cannot afford to hire the wrong person?”
2. Cyprus Employers Still Compete in an International Talent Market
Cyprus remains a major employment hub for online trading, but experienced professionals know the market and may already have relationships with competing employers and recruiters.
For difficult positions, employers should distinguish between active candidates who are currently applying and passive candidates who are not searching but may consider the right opportunity.
3. AI Is Starting to Change the Candidate Profile
Research reported by Cyprus Mail found AI, machine learning or related technologies appearing in a meaningful share of online-trading vacancies, including around one in five Cyprus openings in the dataset.
The implication is not to add “AI experience” indiscriminately to every vacancy. Employers should ask how technology is changing each specific role and recruit accordingly.
4. Avoid Creating the Impossible Candidate
Vacancies can become unrealistic when employers continually add requirements without
reconsidering priorities or salary. Divide requirements into three categories:
- Essential: the candidate cannot perform the job without it.
- Preferred: valuable, but something the company could compromise on.
- Trainable: something a strong candidate could realistically learn after joining.
5. A More Selective Market Makes Recruitment Process More Important
Multiple unnecessary interviews, long periods without feedback, unclear reporting lines and changing job specifications can make an attractive employer appear indecisive.
Before advertising, determine who makes the final decision, how many interviews are genuinely necessary, what salary range has been approved, which requirements are negotiable and how quickly an offer can be authorised. A strong process should be thorough and decisive.
