Volity is building a financial platform for trading, investing and payments. The South African business operates through an FSCA-authorised Financial Services Provider (FSP)
.
We are looking for a director who lives in South Africa and has worked inside regulated financial services. This is an active board role. The Director should understand the business, question management when needed, and stay close enough to the local operation to know where the real risks are.

Mandate

This is an active board appointment. You will help shape the South African business, challenge management when
necessary and keep the local operation within its regulatory permissions and governance obligations.

What you will do

  • Take part in board decisions on strategy, risk appetite, operating model and the development of the South
  • African business.
  • Review the FSP's governance, risk, compliance and operational reporting. Follow up on material issues until
  • the board is satisfied with the response.
  • Check that local activities stay within the FSP's authorisation and applicable FSCA and FAIS requirements.
  • Escalate matters that may require a licence amendment or regulatory engagement.
  • Review significant policies, outsourcing arrangements, conflicts of interest, complaints trends, client conduct
  • issues and operational risks.
  • Work directly with the Key Individual, Compliance, auditors, legal advisers and the FSCA when board
  • involvement is needed.
  • Make sure board papers are useful, decisions are recorded properly, and agreed actions are followed through.
  • Bring a South African regulatory and commercial perspective to group decisions that affect the local entity.

What we need
  • You live in South Africa and will remain ordinarily based in the country while holding the appointment. This is a Volity requirement.
  • You have senior management, ExCo or board experience in regulated financial services. Experience in an FSCA-regulated FSP is strongly preferred.
  • You understand how board accountability, FAIS conduct obligations, FICA, compliance and operational risk work together in practice.
  • You have held real decision-making responsibility and can show that you have challenged management, handled difficult issues and followed matters through.
  • You can work with an international management team while keeping your duties to the South African entity clear.
  • You can satisfy the integrity, competence and other requirements that apply to the appointment.
  • It is a plus if you already meet, or are close to meeting, the FSCA competence requirements for a Category I Key Individual, including an appropriate recognised qualification and RE1. KI approval is not required for this Director appointment.

Useful experience
  • Retail trading, CFDs, forex, securities, digital investing or other multi-asset products.
  • Building or scaling a regulated business, handling licence amendments, or working through regulatory
  • inspections and remediation.
  • Board oversight of compliance, AML/CFT, outsourcing, technology, complaints or client asset arrangements.
  • The role
  • The South African governance model is still being built, so the Director will have input into how it works from
  • the start.
  • You will work directly with group management, the Key Individual and the local control functions.
  • The expectation is straightforward: know the business, understand the risks and take responsibility for the quality of local governance.
